Unit 13-World War II

Picture
US HIS EOC E.1.a thru E.1.e

World War II saw its roots begin at the end of World War I with the Treaty of Versailles. Fascism, militarism, and dictators are created around the world during the 1920s and 1930s as the League of Nations proved powerless to stop the aggression.

The United States attempted to remain neutral, but as the Germans and Japanese made headway in Europe and the Pacific, we were drawn into the conflict. The war became a unifying force in America with patriotism and economic sacrifices by citizens helping to ensure the war effort.

The war saw horrendous crimes against humanity, specifically the genocide against the Jewish peoples of Europe in the Holocaust. The culmination of a long, secretive program known as the Manhattan Project not only brought the war to an end but also created instability in the world for the next fifty years. War crimes committed by the Axis Powers are addressed at the end of the war and a new Cold War begins.
