This unit analyzes the era immediately following the creation of the Constitution in the early republic.  Specific attention is given to the areas of:
  • Political and territorial changes resulting from westward expansion of the United States in the early 1800s.
  • Federal and state policies toward American Indians in the first half of the nineteenth century.
  • The development of US foreign policy during the early 1800s (Embargo Act, Monroe Doctrine, Alien/Sedition)
